Grandview, August 14, 2014 – A community led committee has been formed to investigate the potential to construct a new multi-business unit strategically within the centre of downtown Grandview.
A total of $20,000 in funding has been secured for the project. Partners in the project include the Province of Manitoba’s Partner 4 Growth program, the Town of Grandview, the RM of Grandview, the Kinsmen Club of Grandview, the Grandview Credit Union and PARC. The project is anticipated to create many economic opportunities for the trading area as there are currently limited business accommodations.
The Grandview Main Street Renewal Committee has been formed and includes; Tom Barnett and Pierce Cairns (Kinsmen Club of Grandview), Vern Nelson (RM of Grandview), Cam Dingwall (Town of Grandview), Flo Branconnier (Grandview Credit Union) and Marnie Kostur (PARC). The committee will determine whether the proposed project is feasible based on the business costs to develop, identity of tenants, size of building, operating structure, financial assessment, plan of action and a drawing.
The committee is interested in holding a public meeting to find out what the business gaps are in the community and to identify potential businesses that may be interested in securing space.
PARC has been working towards developing specific potential for regional competitiveness and development of business and investment into the region and has recently completed the “Parkland Regional Growth Strategy Project”. The initiative has helped to gather information regarding major gaps in business and service delivery for the trading area and to evaluate properties across the region for having the most potential for development. The property proposed is one of the properties identified from this project.
